Our team leader and Explorer Travel Planner, Shanaaz Dollie, recently took a short trip to Franschhoek, best known for its mesmerizing European charm and tranquility, and couldn’t wait to share her experience.
Here is her review of the five-star boutique Franschhoek Country House, located on the outskirts of Franschhoek. Take a look at what she had to say about the accommodation, facilities, meals and more.

First Impressions of the Franschhoek Country House
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were warmly welcomed by the staff. At first glance, you are surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. The rooms are all connected by walkways which are lined with gorgeous roses and flowers in full bloom!

The accommodation was a dream
After a quick tour of the hotel’s facilities, we were lucky to check into our villa suite, which has air-con, a private lounge, and a balcony. The view from the room is just magnificent! Our room was elegantly decorated and included a king-sized 4-poster bed, a large bathroom, a double sink, and a Victorian bath.

We appreciated the attention-to-detail
We then quickly made our way to the pools, one of which was heated – and what a lovely experience! It was the perfect way to relax and unwind. Once we got out of the pool, cold bottled water and fresh towels were ready for us to use.

There are plenty of facilities
The hotel also offers a comfortable common sitting area with a fireplace, television and some games. For a small fee you can rent bicycles for a half or full day and explore the town.
Dinner was a treat
In the evening, we enjoyed a beautiful, delicious dinner at the Monneaux Restaurant. The menu was limited, but the staff and chef were not short of new offerings for our dietary requirements. For starters, we had a lovely butternut soup. For the main course, we shared a risotto with roasted vegetables. We did not have space for dessert, but we were surprised by a lovely sorbet for my husband’s birthday. How very sweet!

An experience we won’t forget
The following morning, breakfast was an absolute delight. We packed our bags with heavy hearts and took the road back to Cape Town. With Franschhoek’s exceptional mountains in the background, we will undoubtedly return and choose the French Romance.
